You need assets to get ahead nowadays

Fiat purchasing power has shrunk at 10% or more each year. As the apex asset, bitcoin has grown at 66%, outpacing the money printer.

People are cruising through life and not realizing the importance of holding assets. Without assets, you are reliant on running really quickly to outpace the money printer. Let’s say your boss gives you a 2% salary bump, and your money buys you say, 10% less than what it did last year. Even with the 2% salary increase, you still lost pace by 8% on net. That means the actually nice things that most of us want, like secure decent quality housing, food, clothing, and so on, become LESS accessible to us. So when you work your day job (and maybe even a second job or side hustle), if you don’t store your value in assets, you just get wrecked by fiat currency debasement.

Bitcoin is the best asset, appreciating 66%/year for the last 5 years as of July 2025. So why wouldn’t you want to maintain strong exposure to it? On current power law trends, bitcoin is growing in USD terms about 40%/year, and this may taper down slightly over time – but on average you are still dramatically outpacing the money printer.

Think about what the typical person does. They earn their salary and store it in their fiat bank account, and ignorantly let it be inflated away by central banks. Maybe the nihilistic people are just ‘doom-spending’ all of their disposable incomes on frivolous lifestyle expenditures or gambling. But the smart people know that they need to accumulate assets that appreciate faster than the fiat printer prints. The problem for a lot of people is that so many assets nowadays are NOT outpacing the money printer. So while they treat their house as their savings account, or they store a lot of their savings in underperforming government bonds, they are still losing pace. Even with exposure to broad stock indexes like the S&P500, they are maybe just barely keeping pace with the printer.

People can debate the exact pace of money printing. It’s certainly more than just the 2-3% Consumer Price Index, and arguably as high as 12%/year if you look at base money expansion, per Porkopolis Economics Quarterly Updates.

Lastly, let’s think through what this pace of money printing means for us longer term. Are you willing and able to run so hard that you increase your salary greater than 10%/year for the rest of your life? What about when you get old and have to retire someday? What will you do then? Will you just accept a continually lower standard of living? Or will you take action to save yourself and your family now?

You need assets. Bitcoin is the best asset.
